The Health Science Center cares about our students’ emotional and physical wellbeing and strives to provide all students with a campus environment that is conducive to academic endeavors and social and individual growth.
In an effort to increase opportunities to identify students of concern, a form exists to capture Care Team referrals and violations of the Student Code of Conduct & Civility within one central online form. The Person of Concern Reporting Form can be found at: .
Individuals referring students of concern can select the nature of their report and identify and provide context for the nature of their concern. The Mindful Corner

Overview

Microsoftteams Image (7)

Over 75% of HSC students rate their stress as moderate or high, and 32.7% of HSC students have been diagnosed or treated for stress in the last 12 months. In recognition and response to the challenges of HSC students, the Office of Care and Civility created a wellbeing space named “The Mindful Corner” in 2023.

While HSC has a variety of excellent laboratories and academic spaces, The Mindful Corner was designed as a space where students can relax and destress. The Mindful Corner incorporates elements commonly found in sensory rooms such as soft seating and user-adjustable lighting and sound. The Mindful Corner features a whiteboard “Affirmation Wall” where students can express their creativity in providing uplifting messages for one another and sharing illustrations. In addition, The Mindful Corner hosts a variety of fidget toys and relaxing activities like puzzles and coloring pages.

Multiple groups of students were consulted in both the creation and naming of The Mindful Corner. Additionally, the Office of Care and Civility consulted with the Office of Disability Access to ensure the space meets is accessible and encourages wellbeing for neurodivergent students. The Mindful Corner is is located in room 106 of the Founders Activity Center and open during FAC hours beginning in September of 2023. For inquiries related to The Mindful Corner, please email OCC@unthsc.edu.
